Tom’s of Maine makes deodorant without all usual harmful deodorant ingredients. Sounds good on a label but can it withstand a workout? Find out by reading my review on Tom’s Long Lasting Women’s Deodorant.
I’m always in pursuit of good sustainable, environmentally friendly products that are also cruelty-free. Today, I’m sharing my thoughts on Tom’s Long Lasting Women’s deodorant.
Tom’s deodorant checks many items on my list. First off, it’s accessible. I found it in my local Shopper’s Drugmart. It’s cruelty-free, made of natural ingredients and with sustainable practices.
I remember when I was younger, aluminum in deodorant was a big issue. If you do a quick google search you’ll find articles that argue both sides. Some say deodorant isn’t a significant cause of breast cancer or alzheimer’s, while others point the exact opposite. In my opinion, it’s better to side with caution and go with what’s natural.
Tom’s of Maine deodorant boasts no artificial fragrances or preservatives and no aluminum. Here is what it’s made of:
Propanediol (derived from vegetable oil), water, glycerin, sodium stearate, Aloe leaf juice, zinc ricinoleate, glyceryl laurate, parfum, hops extract, tocopheryl, acetate, sunflower seed oil, ascorbic acid.
The particular deodorant stick I purchased smelled of hops. If you are a fan of beer, this smell might appeal to you! I am not. I don’t find the smell offensive though, and it’s very mild. Once it’s applied and dried, I don’t find it has much of an odour. This would work well if you have have an office or a gym that promotes a scent-free environment.
The texture of Tom’s deodorant is more “wet” or sticky than your traditional deodorants. I feel the need to let my armpits dry before I put on a shirt.
Tom’s deodorant is a few dollars more than the regular deodorant. I’ve seen a range of prices from about $4.25 (walmart.ca) to $7.49(well.ca). My regular brand of deodorant is around $2 at Walmart or the local Shopper’s Drug Mart.
Here is the real question. Does an all natural product, such as Tom’s work? Is it good enough for workouts? Well, the short answer is yes, it works. I’ve been using it for several weeks now and it does work. Is it long lasting? On my body, I would say no. It’s sufficient for the day, however, it doesn’t work well for me during workouts. I’m totally OK with that since I always shower and reapply anyway following a workout!
Final Overall Impression
Tom’s deodorant isn’t the most powerful deodorant I have ever tested. It does it’s job for regular office day use, however, it doesn’t leave you smelling fresh as a daisy after a workout. It does however, keep body odour at bay for the day! It is in a stick format, which is so much better than Lush’s Greeench Deodorant Powder. I like Lush’s Deodorant Powder, but it was very messy. Some of the gyms and pools I visit ban powders! My overall rating for Tom’s would be a 3.5 out of 5 stars. It works, it’s price won’t break the bank, and most importantly, it’s sustainable, natural and cruelty free!
