I’m only 1 week away from reaching my first goals of 2015. On February 16 I will running in my very first 10 km race ever! This will also be my very first race in winter as well.
Signing up for a race in February was quite strategic on my part. Signing up for a race gets me motivated to train very much like a deadline at work gets you motivated to finish the project. Also, winter is usually when I’m in hibernation mode so it’s also helping me to be active during a season when usually enjoying the comforts of the indoors.
My training has been going very well until this week when I came down with a terrible sinus infection. That has derailed my training somewhat this week! There is also a blizzard on the forecast to add icing to my cake, however, I haven’t’ seen the evidence of this yet, thankfully.
On a slightly more positive note, my training is starting to taper this week to let my body rest a bit before the big day next week.
So, despite the set back, here was my training for this week:
I did some interval training on Tuesday. Luckily, the scheduled training on miCoach was a 30 min run, so I was able to keep with training plan.
Just to recap the zones:
Blue zone: Easy pace, good for warm-ups & cool downs
Green Zone: Medium Pace, my regular running pace
Yellow Zone: Difficult Pace, used to improve your cardio strength
Red Zone: Maximum Effort , about 90% of your sprint pace
I had am easy 25 min run scheduled on Thursday, but since I started my sinus infection on that day, I skipped the workout at lunch. I instead headed over to the new amazing (aka dangerous on the wallet) Outlet Collection at Niagara and shopped for a few items that I think I will need for my up coming race. I picked up a pair of Nike running gloves, some sunglasses (to prevent snow blindness since I’m desperately hoping for a sunny day) and new pair of running tight. This last one is just because I’m vain and I want to look fashionable for my up coming race. A review of my new compression leggings is coming.
Motivate Me Monday
Here is what’s on the training agenda for week 6, my final week of training for my 10 Km race:
- Tuesday – 31 minute interval run (blue/red zone)
- Thursday – 25 minute easy run
- Weekend – 20 minute easy run
- Monday – Race Day. Monday is Family Day, a very welcomed Canadian Holiday!
