With the Christmas holidays at hand, I have to admit to falling behind on this Challenge. That’s OK, I rather take my time and learn about sustainable fashion instead of rushing through the challenge to say I did it.
Learn to Mend
Luckily for me I know how to do basic mending of clothes. Since I’m on the short side, I’ve learned how to shorten my own pants. I am also very lucky to have two excellent seamstresses in the form of my sisters Line and Sylvie who I can turn to if my work requires a sewing machine.
I’ve been thinking about my clothes budget. I put some money away from every pay for my clothes budget. My goal for 2015 will be not to spend it t right away, but to let it build and buy some high quality pieces that I actually need. I really need to limit my emotional impulse buying of fast fashion clothing that won’t last. I think this is a great New Years Resolution for 2015!
Getting to know Textile
I have to do a lot of research for myself on the topic of textiles. I haven’t taken the time to read through the textiles that Tortoise and Lady Grey suggests, such as Hemp, Organic Cotton, Recycled Nylon or Polyester, Wool or Linen. I also want to do some of my own research on Luon, which is the magic ingredient in Lululemon clothing. It’s a favorite of mine I want to see if it’s justifiable or not. I can honestly say I know nothing about the process or its impact on the environment. If anyone has insight on this material, please let me know! Maybe this will be the subject of a future post.
Re-style and old favorite
I was excited when I read this mini challenge on Day 12. However, I’ve been struggling. I’ve tried on soooo many combination of clothes and I’m so not happy with anything I came up with. My wardrobe is so plain. I have a lot of black in my wardrobe. I don’t want to rush this process either, so I will go back to the drawing board and come up with a great inspiration look and try to re-style an outfit from the clothes in my closet. When I do come up with a good re-styled outfit, I will be sure to post it here. I did a few re-styling on last week’s update. You can see them here.
I’m hoping to have some more time with this up coming week to complete all the daily challenges for the 20 Day Sustainable Challenge. If you are interested in learning more about Sustainable Fashion, pop over to Tortoise and Lady Grey. I have since completed the re-style assignment.
