That’s right, you read it right, Moonbeam. It’s the actual name of a very tiny town in Northern Ontario with a population of 1101 people. Sudbury has the Big Nickel, Wawa has the big Goose, and not to be out done, Moonbeam’s monument is a big spaceship, visible as you drive by on Highway 11. Moonbeam has adopted a mascot, an alien named Kilo, which you will see in pictures below. Anyhow, now I’ve set the scene of where my twin sister Julie spend her Canada Day this year. Read how Julie and her son Felix did on their Canada Day Race Recap.

We vacation in Moonbeam often since it’s my husband ‘s hometown and where his parents live. We were there for Canada Day 2015 and participated in the local Canada Day race along the Moonbeam nature trails. My husband and youngest son Felix, participated in the 5 km race while I ran the 10 km.
From race results at coursemoonbeamrun.org there was a total of 327 participants in all races combined. This Canada Day run has goal of promoting physical activity and the nature trails so it’s a Free event. Runners had the choice of many distances; 2km, 5km, 10km and 1/2 marathon. No awards are given except for the participation medals.
The weather was very cold for July 1, as you can tell by the clothes we were wearing. Despite the cold weather, my son had an amazing race with an impressive time of 25:45. Felix, who is 8, tied for 1st place in the 5k race out of all 128 runners and walkers of all ages.
I ran my 10 Km race in 56:21 which is now my new P.R for the 10 Km race. This time placed me 14th out of 49 runners.
Well, I want to congratulate my brother-in-law Kevin for participating in his very first 5 Km race! We are proud of you! And also Felix for tying first overall in the 5 Km. I think he’s a natural born runner! And as for Julie, I want to congratulate her on her great new PR, which by the way is a whole minute faster than my new 10 Km P.R. Humph! I’ll let you win this one…. for now! We’ll hopefully get to race side by side this September! Game on Julie…. Game on!
