If you visit my blog often, you’ll notice that I recently added a clock to count down to Iron Girl, my first triathlon. It’s only about 73 days away (from the day that I’m writing this).
If you visit often, you’ll know that I’ve set 2 big goals this year, to run my first half marathon and compete in my first triathlon. My half marathon is only 2 weeks away, on June 5th. When I first started the training, I thought it was a insurmountable goal. Now that the date is getting close, I’m confident that I can do it.
Same goes with my triathlon goals. I never thought I’d feel confident about competing in swimming and biking events. To be honest, before September of 2015, I didn’t even know how to do the front crawl or what a flutter kick was. I’ve come a long way, and even thought I haven’t officially started my triathlon training plan, I’m confident in my abilities in each discipline.
Last weekend I signed myself up for an 8 week Triathlon Clinic for beginners. The day after I complete my half marathon, I dive in (literally) in my tri-training. My first lesson starts on Monday, June 6th, and we start with an open water swim!
I’m super excited to be starting with an open water swim. It’s one thing to learn to swim in a pool, but to swim in a lake, with waves, where you can’t see the bottom, wearing a wet suit will be a whole new experience.
Follow me in the next 10 weeks, while my twin sister and I train for our very first triathlon. We will be training separately, as we live 500 km away, but we will be competing together in Grimsby on August 7. This is our way of celebrating our 40th birthday (which is actually in September) together. Tune in weekly as we chronicles our tri training.
