The morning was cool, barely above the freezing with a slight wind but the sun was out and it made it a great day for a race for the Jordan 5K race!
I have to admit that just because this was only a 5 Km race, it wasn’t easy. I wanted to push hard to finish with a faster time. I might have sprinted a bit too fast at the start, but in the end I think it was well worth it. I struggled a bit at during the third and fourth kilometer. I tried to slow down so that I could recover and have a stronger finish!
My Splits according to my iPhone App “miCoach” were:
Km 1 – 4:40
Km 2 – 5:14
Km 3 – 5:32
Km 4 – 5:25
Km 5 – 5:08
Previously to this race, I’ve run in two other 5 Km races since staring this blog. My first race, Run for the Grapes, I ran in 27:54 and at the CIBC Run for the Cure, I ran it in 26:28 (from my iPhone) but that wasn’t an official time. That specific charity race it not timed nor is the course certified.
My time for this weekend’s race was officially 26:26. So, you heard it first on RunMommyRun, I have a new P.R. for the 5 Km! I was 9th out of 25 women in my age category and 116th out of 236 racers overall. Not bad at all. I’m still aiming for a goal of under 25 minutes! It will happen!
There were no finishers’ medals at this race. It’s funny, usually I think “What are we, 5? Everyone gets a medal?” For a 1/2 marathon or a full marathon, I can understand giving out medals because it’s a great accomplishment to finish those long races, but for a 5 Km race? But at the same time, I was a bit disappointed about not having that memento of this race!
I was grateful to see my husband and my son waiting for me at the finish line. My husband filmed my finish so, here is a little video clip!
