I’m already in my final week of training before my Faster 5 Km Race! A few weeks ago when I decided to do the Subaru Hamilton – Niagara Series Jordan 5 Km race, there was so much snow on the ground. I needed something to motivate me to keep running so I set my site on this race! Signing up for races is a great way to stay motivated. Now I’m almost done with my training and the snow is melted!
I don’t think that I have the same level of anxiety as I did for my 10 Km race in February. I know I can do 5 km so I’m feeling confident. However, I did have a racing dream a few nights ago. I was racing and my running shoes felt very loose and kept falling off. When I stopped to fix my shoes I decided to take a water break (where the water came from I have no idea) and that’s when my twin sister caught up to me and had some water with me (who knew she was in the race too?). When she turned away and wasn’t looking, I darted off again, trying to regain my lead. In my dream, my twin sister was furious with me, and I justified my actions by saying, “it IS a race so suck it up”! I’m not a dream analyst, so I’m not sure what this dream signifies but I’m suspecting that it’s it still means I’m suffering from some sort of race anxiety.
Here was Week 3’of Training Looked Like
Just to recap the zones:
Blue zone: Easy pace, good for warm-ups & cool downs
Green Zone: Medium Pace, my regular running pace
Yellow Zone: Difficult Pace, used to improve your cardio strength
Red Zone: Maximum Effort , about 90% of your sprint pace
I added several High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) this week because I am in the process of reviewing some workout DVD’s. So, The HIIT workouts were not part of my plan.
Monday – HIIT Training
Tuesday – Easy 30 minute run and HITT Training
|Thursday’s snowfall 🙁|
Wednesday – HIIT Training
Thursday Friday – Just before lunch on Thursday, it started to snow unexpectedly. It was slushy and snowing and I totally lost my motivation to go for my lunch time run. I postponed it to Friday instead. It still snowed on Friday, however, I was mentally prepared for it this time and I brought my toque and gloves and completed my Red Zone Interval run. I had a difficult time maintaining the red zones for a whole minute.
Sunday – 45 minute Progression Run. I was happy that it was sunny (even though it was on the cool side) and I was able to get my Sunday run in. It was a difficult run, I had hard time keeping in the 9 minutes of yellow zone and 1 minute of red zone running but I gave it all I had so I feel good about it.
Motivate Me Monday
Here is what I’m anticipating to do this week:
