If you follow Run Mommy Run, you’ll know that working on proper nutrition is one of my goals (and struggles) for 2017. One of my biggest challenge, even though I’m a meat eater, is getting enough protein daily. To keep up with my daily requirement, I drink a daily protein shake as a mid-morning snack. Lately, my 10 a.m snack is made with Naked Pea Protein.
The reason I pick a protein shake as my mid-morning snack is because it’s a great way for me to sneak in fruits, vegetables and protein in. Most protein powders are made with whey protein, but being lactose intolerant, I need dairy free source of protein powder. I was sent this huge container of Naked Pea protein to try.
Benefits of Naked Pea Protein
Looking at the label, Naked Pea Protein is pretty impressive. Naked Pea Protein is:

Naked Pea Protein isn’t only for smoothies and shakes either. This protein powder can also be used to bake with.
When it comes to Naked Pea, you can’t really judge a book by its cover, or packaging in this case. As seen on their simple black text on green labels “Don’t let labels and big agribusiness fool you; additives are for their bottom line, not your health”. Let’s be real, it’s what’s inside that counts.
What really impressed me the most is the size of the container. I received a 5 lb tub, and surprise surprise, it was actually full! One of my husband’s biggest complaints when he buys a tub of expensive protein powder is that when you open it up, you realize it’s only half full.
Taste & Texture
Ok, Ok, so Naked Pea sounds perfect on paper, but the most important question is how does it taste? I will start by saying that I’m super picky when it comes to protein powder taste and texture.
The good thing about Naked Pea protein is that it’s not flavoured so you can combine it with any kind of matrix; juice, water, coconut water and then add whatever flavour your want, strawberry, chocolate, vanilla etc…
The bad thing about Naked Pea protein is that it’s not flavoured or sweetened by anything to mask the natural flavour of the yellow pea. But it’s also a good thing too because it means that the powder is not loaded with sugars and fillers.
But, what does it really taste like though? Pretty much like you would imagine dried peas would taste like in my opinion. Naked Pea protein is a bit grittier in texture than whey protein. Some people might not worry about texture, but I really do.
And while I’m being honest, I wouldn’t be able to just mix Naked Pea with water and drink it, it’s a bit too chalky for that. Instead, I did enjoy Naked Pea protein in my usual mid-morning Berry Smoothie. Mixed in with sweet bananas and frozen berries, the pea flavour disappeared as well as the gritty/chalky texture.

Add the following ingredients to a blender cup:
- 1 banana
- 1 cup of frozen berries
- 2 scoops of Naked Pea Protein Powder
- 1 handful of spinach leaves
- top up with orange juice
Blend until smooth and enjoy!
Where to buy it?
One of the things that I did notice about Naked Pea protein is that it really kept me satisfied longer than other protein powders that I’ve used and most importantly, it agreed with my stomach. Also, since it’s not loaded with artificial flavours and ingredients, like sucralose or other artificial sugars, I didn’t get any migraines from it.
I think that Naked Pea Protein would add great value to anyone seeking a varied and balanced diet, especially for those with dietary restrictions since naked pea protein is vegan, soy free, sugar-free, gluten-free and dairy free.
