I have about 2 more months to work at getting my average 5 Km run to 25 minutes (My race pace during my University days). Last week, I ran it in 28 minutes and 45 seconds. Today, my record in a long time, I ran it in 27 minutes and 25 seconds.
Now, I know that 25 minutes for 5 Km isn’t outrageously fast, but I was never a natural long distance runner to start. I’m a sprinter at heart, and I’m built for sprinting. I just do long distance (and I consider 5 Km a long distance) because it’s great cardio, and I do enjoy it.
I’m enjoying my training so far. I love pushing myself harder. I had stopped working out and running altogether for so many years, it just feels great to be doing it again! I’m also loving the results. I feel fit and strong.. like an athlete again.
What keeps me motivated??? My twin sister! We compare running notes every day. She lives 6 hours away! We are both working hard at not only shaving down our 5 km time to 25 minutes, but we also want to beat each other in a 5 Km race at the end of September… officially and publically! It’s too bad that not everyone one has a twin! I highly recommend being one! :)I thank my lucky stars that I have a sister/best friend that is just like me. We stay competitive and motivated while still supporting and encouraging each other!
That’s it for today! I wonder if next week I’ll disappoint myself for not beating 27:25…. that seems to be a hard time to replicate!
