Several weeks ago, I was the lucky winner of a set of DVD’s from a giveaway from one of the blogs I follow; Cowgirl Runs. It is a set of 8 High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) DVDs by Fit Chicks called Fierce in 8.
I’ve heard my husband talk about HIIT training but I’ve been concentrating so much on running that I haven’t dabbled much into it before. If you are new to working out as I am, here is the basic low down. HIIT is basically short intense cardio exercises followed by a short recovery. For me, it’s similar to Interval Training when running, short burts of speed followed by a recovery period. The benefits of HIIT workouts is that you burn more calories in a shorter amount of time.
I’ve been using the FIERCE in 8 DVD’s as Cross Training this week. I’ve really been enjoying these workouts. On the whole, I was able to follow the high intensity variations (level 2) though sometimes (mostly when doing push-ups) I had to do the level one modifications. I think the Fierce in 8 workouts are great for beginners but could also be used by woman with more advanced skills because they offer different variations to all the moves. Fierce in 8 is definitely approved by this chick!
If you are looking for along term workout program, they do provide a Workout Map that outlines a 8 week program. I love when I don’t have to do the thinking!
Here are some of the things I love about this set of DVD workout videos:
- The FIERCE IN 8 workouts are only 25 to 30 minutes in length! I can fit a workout in any evening after my little guy goes to bed and still have time to blog!
- I love that I can workout in the comfort of my own home.
- The FIERCE IN 8 workouts don’t require a lot of equipment, in fact, the only equipment required are 3 to 5 lb weights. I would probably like to see a few more weights used in the workouts however.
- Even though they are short, I got a good sweat from these HIIT workouts and I enjoyed them.
- My favorites was Fierce Fighter Chick since it had some moves that I’ve never done before.
FIERCE IN 8 also comes with a Nutrition Guide. They have great healthy recipes that are easy to make and are 5 ingredients as well as a large selection of smoothie recipes . The nutrition guide provides a sample meal plan too. I didn’t have enough time to test all the recipies in Nutrition Guide, however, I did make a few.
The nutrition guide has Glorious Green Smoothies recipes. They give you suggestions for 6 steps; liquid, greens, healthy fats, fruits and optional extras so you can customize your smoothie just the way you like it. Here is one smoothie that I made and looooved. I chose coconut water for my liquid, berries for fruit, coconut oil for my healthy fat, mint for my greens, a banana for sweetness and through in some protein powder. It was delish!

I also made their Omelet Muffin Chick Style. I have to admit that even if it’s healthy food, this is soooooo good. I often make omelets but what makes this recipe super tasty a is the addition of spinach, green onions but mostly goat cheese. These omelet muffins kept me satisfied for a long time! They did take some time to make since I had to chop the ingredients, so I don’t have time to make these during the week, but they were great for a Sunday morning breakfast. I did have leftovers for the next few days so that was a bonus and they tasted just as great as leftovers!
I received 2 DVD sets in error, so I contacted Fit Chicks and they agreed to let me use it as a giveaway in exchange for a review, but rest assured that the opinions are still my own. Now, it’s my pleasure to have my very first blog giveaway! Enter to win your own set of FIERCE IN 8 by the Fit Chicks and get your sweat on!
