Not time to workout? Think again! Jillian Michaels 10 Minute Body Transformation (2nd edition) is out! No matter how busy you are, you can find 10 minutes out of your day to transform your body!
I was sent the Jillian Michaels 10 Minute Body Transformation (2nd Edition) for the purpose of a review. The thoughts and opinions are my own.
Last week, I reviewed a Gaiam water bottle, this week, I’m reviewing Jillian Michaels’ 10 Minute Body (second edition). The name Jillian Michaels shouldn’t be new to you. She was one of the fitness trainers in NBC’s The Biggest Loser.
Jillian Micheals has released several workout videos, including; 6 Week Six Pack, Ripped in 30, One Week Shred and more.
The 10 Minute Body Transformation – 2nd edition- is Jillian’s latest release. Jillian created five fun yet insanely effective 10-minute workouts which are: HIIT/Plyo, Hard Core, Animal Style, Lift, and Yoga: Stretch & Strengthen.
Here is a short description of the 5 – 10 minute body workouts:
10 minutes of high-intensity interval training – This high intensity workout will do the trick if you only have 10 minutes. This workout consists of 20 sec of work followed by 10 second of recovery. The advantage of HITT workouts like this is that you don’t only burn calories while you are working out, but long after you recover as well.
For this workout, I alternated between the modification and the normal because I was combining more than one of the workouts. If I was to only do one I’d push as hard as I can. If you are not used to it, the modification is still intense enough. For a 10-minute body workout, she makes you work for it!
Designed to blast your midsection and give you chiseled abs – This was one of my favorite of the 5. Working on my core is something I’m focusing on this year. This 10 minute video will surely do the trick when I don’t have much time. The modifications were good enough for me on this video! It left me feeling very good!
Total body workout based on animal-style movements – I was a little thrown off by the title of this video. I didn’t know what to expect. However, there is nothing too weird in it. The exercises in Animal Style include the likes of the bear crawl, donkey kicks, alligator (walking planks) and duck walks. Duck walks were hard Overall, this was an effective and different workout.
Upper and lower body chiseler using weights – This was my other favorite of the five on this 10 Minute Body DVD. This workout does require weights. I would recommend 3 to 5 lbs for this one (depending on your level). Unfortunately I don’t have anything less than 5 lbs so that’s what I used. This workout has you working small muscles groups with large muscle groups to maximise your calorie burn. It’s a slower pace than the previous videos and it’s all about range of motion. My favorite move in this video was the Bow and Arrow
Yoga: Stretch & Strengthen
Yoga-inspired workout to both tone and stretch the body – These days, everyone throws in their yoga inspired workout videos, and that’s because fitness pros see the benefits of yoga and stretching.
In this workout, you will find your typical vinyasa, sun salutation, chair pose, warrior poses type of moves. I found this workout to be pretty typical of most yoga programs I have on DVD. Nothing new here, just a quick 10 minute version. This one would add an excellent addition to any of the other 10 minute body workouts on this DVD.
I love the idea of these 10 minute body workouts. You can pick just one if time is limited, or combine a few for a full workout. It’s like a customizable workout.
I love that in this workout DVD, Jillian offers modification and progressions for every move.
The actual workouts are 10 minutes, however, there is a 2.5 minutes warm-up and cool down on their own track. It is highly recommended that you do them before and after every workout, so they are not exactly just 10 minutes. I you just pick one, you would need to set aside an extra 5 minutes. If you combine a workout, you just need to do your warm up before and your cool down after.
I don’t think there is anything earth shatteringly different in these workouts. However, they are effective and short. The price of these videos, only $14.99 makes it very attractive. It’s also very accessible since they are available online at Gaiam or in-store at Shoppers Drug Mart and Walmart.

So, I’m finished with my 3 weeks of the 21 Day Fix/Hybrid schedule. Now I need to start seriously thinking of training for the Grapes of Wrath, a local Obstacle Mud Run/Obstacle race on June 10th. I’m still trying to figure out how to effectively train for something like this. Here is what this week’s plan will look like (unless we get lots of rain as anticipated)
Tuesday: 5 km run at lunch
Wednesday: 30 min Trek Fit
Thursday: 5 Km run at lunch
Saturday: Wedding (does dancing count?)
Sunday: Yoga, stretching, foam rolling
