The Man in The Yellow Jacket: A True Halloween Story
I wasn’t planning on writing a post this morning, but since it is Halloween today, I thought I’d share my early morning experience.
Since about last winter, my husband has scared me with lore about “The Man In The Yellow Jacket”. Often, after coming back in from walking the dog, my husband would tell me about how he ran into the man wearing a yellow jacket. He would see him in the park, on the trails or on the road yet I walk the dog every day and I have never seen this man wearing a yellow jacket. Some of the stories included seeing him coming out of the fog, or just standing by a light post, shoulder shrugged and staring. My husband knows I’m a chicken, so he obviously embellished his stories about how he followed him home one day. Or he would get me to come to the window to see the man in the yellow jacket staring into the house (but he was always gone when I got to the window…humph!) Sometimes, if someone knocked on the door he would say, “maybe it’s the guy in the yellow jacket”. Even though I know that he likes to tell tall tales just to scare me, it works.
Well, I was walking the dog this morning, and it was early and dark and Halloween day too, and who did I run into? A man wearing a yellow safety jacket! He said good morning and kept walking in the same direction he was heading. Ok, so the man looked normal, and if he was wearing anything but a yellow jacket, I wouldn’t have thought anything strange. But he was wearing a yellow jacket and shivers ran up and down my arms and I hurried home to the safety of my house. I was really spooked.
Ok, so that’s my short but spooky story.
