Hi Everyone, I hope you had a great week. Mine has been quite eventful. Will my final exam for my course done and over with, my activities for my fitness challenge and a stressful drive through a snow storm I’m happy that the weekend is near. I need a bit of R & R.
On today’s post I thought I would share a bit more of my art with you. I selected a theme of “Buildings” to showcase today. It’s a bit out of my comfort zone since drawing or painting straight lines is very difficult. I find organic shape easier since they are much more forgiving.
Building No. 1:Mount Carmel, Niagara Falls, Ontario
A few years ago I took a plein air art class. This pastel drawing was drawn as part of this class. The subject is Mount Carmel, a Spiritual Center in Niagara Falls, Ontario. It’s a very stunning building. I’m not very experience at drawing architecture or using pastels as a medium so this was a very experimental piece for me.
Building No. 2: School of Horticulture in Niagara Falls, Ontario
This second painting is also a project from my plein air class. We went a couple of times at the Botanical Gardens as there was lots of interesting things to paint there. The image is a water colour of the School of Horticulture on the grounds of the Botanical Gardens. Lovely place. I’m not to experienced with water colour, but I enjoyed this class. The goal was to complete our work in one sitting (1.5 hours).
Building No. 3: Rustic Barn,
In another art class I took, we were studying the style of some of the early century painters in Quebec, such as the Group of Seven and Clarence Gagnon. This subject of this painting, if I recall, was a photo from a trip our Art teacher had taken to Quebec. We were encouraged to use bold, and un-ordinary colours for our paintings.
Building No. 4: Old Mill on Manitoulin Island, Ontario
On one of my first trip back home with my husband back when we were dating, I took him to all the touristic attractions, including Manitoulin Island. I took a photo of this old mill with the thought hat it would make a great painting. I tried and tried again with all sorts of mediums and I wasn’t successful at rendering a good painting. Finally on my third or fourth try, I finally created the painting I had envisioned using acrylic paints.
Thanks for stopping by and visit again soon! I hope you have a great weekend!
