I’m trying out a new motto/mantra my friend Myra helped me come up with, it goes like this… “Live slower, run faster”! The run faster is a reference to my other blog Run Mommy Run, while the live slower refers to the my friends’s blog about slow living (read her definition to find out). I aspire to try and slow down a bit myself. (This post was transferred from my old blog when I merged the two together.)
Inspired by Myra undertaking the 20 Day Sustainable Fashion Challenge, I decided to take the challenge myself. (Read about Week 1, Week 2, Week 3 ). While doing the 20 Day sustainable fashion and doing some some internet research, I stumbled across a product line of fresh handmade cosmetics called Lush. It started out from Great Britain, but they also make the products here in British Columbia, Canada. I decided to give this brand a try because they are hand made, natural, not tested on animals (I do feel guilty about using products that are), vegetarian and ethical.
I received my package from Lush today, and I was quite excited to have finally received my order. My first impression was pretty great just based on their eco friendly packaging. The Lush box was stuffed with Ecoflo, packaging that is made of potato starch and quickly biodegrades. They even suggests ways to reuse or recycle the packaging and containers directly on the box. Tips suggested by Lush include; using the glass jars to store bits and bobs, or for travel tins, or using the cardboard in your garden as mulch. If you reused your tins but want to discard them, they can always go in the recycling.
Here are a few more things that impressed me right away. A list of ingredients were listed on every product. Also, every product identifies which Lush employee made it, the date made and the date it should be used by.
In the next few weeks, I will be testing out and reviewing The Greeench Deodorant Powder, Light Yellow Colour Supplement, Feeling Younger Skin Tint and Eyes Right Mascara. I also received a small sample of Parsley Porridge Soap that smells wonderful.
I have such high hopes for this brand of cosmetics because it would make me feel better to use sustainable products. Stay tuned in the next few weeks to see if this brand lives up to my expectations or if it will disappoint.
