Last week, I ran my first 10 km race and it was pretty exciting. While I did some of my training indoors, I did my weekend runs outdoors. As we got closer to race day, the temperatures plummeted to -20 C but felt like -30 C with the wind chill. Most of my outside training was in warmer weather, between 0 C or -10 C so I wasn’t prepared with the right outerwear. My sleeveless jacket that I had been wearing over my hoodie wasn’t going to be enough for the frigid temperature.
I went to the local running shop and bought myself a running jacket, a pair of winter running tights and a pair a merino wool socks.
Today, I’m reviewing the Saucony Nomad Jacket that I wore for that freezing race last Monday as seen in the image on the left.
I’m new to Saucony. I have never bought this brand before but I have seen it on many running blogs. Saucony say they exist for runners and I believe it. Their clothing seem to have runners in mind in every detail.

The jacket is very lightweight. It did a great job at keeping my body heat in, yet it was quite breathable at the same time. Underneath the jacket I wore a technical long sleeve shirt and a hoodie and that was enough to keep me warm despite the -20 C temperatures.
Although I had to buy a size medium to fit over the layers, I found the material had a good amount of stretch. I felt very comfortable and despite all the layers, I didn’t look bulky at all. I really like the cut of the jacket.
Other important details about this jacket is that the material is water-resistant so it will protect me from the elements. It has some reflective stripes to be visible to drivers at night. The jacket has thumb holes (and if you’ve read my blog before you’ll know I love them). And the best part, it came in purple, one of my favorite colours! It also comes in black or in jade green (my twin sister Julie would love it in jade).
This jacket is going to be versatile. I will be able to wear into spring with just a long sleeve shirt underneath. I’m really looking forward to warmer weather!
I would definitely recommend the Saucony Nomad Jacket! In fact, the winter tights I bought for the race are also from this Saucony. So, come visit again soon since I will be reviewing them shortly!
