I have less than a month left of training for Iron Girl Canada. Yikes! Am I ready? Find out on Road to Iron Girl Chronicle Week 11.
It’s been a few weeks since I’ve logged in with an update. I’m still around, and I’m still training for Iron Girl. In fact, I’ve been busy enjoying this summer with my family, vacationing and focusing on my training.
A few weeks back, on Chronicle Week 8 of my training, I had just suffered a lower back injury and my training was on hold for a couple of weeks. Well, with rest, stretching and foam rolling, I’m now feeling myself again and back to my training.
Peachbud 5 Km Race
Although I never got around to writing about it, I did my first 5 km race in 2 years a few weeks ago. It was just 1 week after my back injury, but I was feeling fine and decided to go ahead with it. I reassessed my goals for the race and decided to aim for a slower than normal race pace. I hit my goal right on target.
Although I was right on target for my 5 km race, I’m definitely not back to my pre-pregnancy fitness levels quite yet. It’s to be expected with 2 years off of training and carrying some extra baby weight.
The New Plan
Before my injury, I was following the Athleta Tri Sprint training plan with some adaptations, but with all the disturbance in my training, I’ve ditched the plan. My new plan is to get some swimming, biking and running in every week, with one brick workout on the weekends.
Although I allowed myself to overindulge on food while on vacation, I’m now back to focusing on my nutrition and making sure that I’m eating well-balanced meals. I’ve sworn off desserts and treats except for on weekends.
That pretty much catches me up to speed. I have 4 weeks left before Iron Girl. I know I can complete the race, but I’m I’m not confident enough in my training to set some goals for the event yet. Will it be to simply finish the race, will it be to finish middle of the pack, or will it be to beat my 2016 time?
And with this last thought, I close Iron Girl Chronicle Week 11.
