I like to pick a couple of goal races every year. This year I picked Iron Girl in Grimsby and a half marathon at the end of September. I’m journaling my experience on training for a Triathlon sprint as a mom of a brand new baby. Here is installment 2 of 16 on Road to Iron Girl.
If you missed Week 1, you can catch up with Road to Iron Girl Chronicle Week 1
I’ll be honest, there wasn’t much training going on here this week. I managed to do one strength workouts. I’m currently using Nike Training Club as I like their workouts and it’s a free app. Nice eh?
I also managed 2 runs, a 3 km and a 5 km. My first one was in the evenings mid-week, which is probably the worst time of day for me, I’m usually too tired. I felt inspired so I attempted, but alas I only managed 3 kilometers. My watch died (as seen below) ,and my motivation to keep going quickly dwindled.
My Saturday morning 5 km run went much better. I even included sprint intervals in my last few kilometers. My average pace is slowly getting faster. I’ll attribute this improvement not only to working hard, but to shedding a few pounds in the process (hooray!)
Serious training starts in a couple of weeks and I really need to get in gear (little pun) before then.
Here Is My To Do list:
- Get bike tuned and tires pumped
- Remove race number from bike (last time I used it was for Iron Girl 2016) Oops!
- Modify training plan to fit my schedule (I’m using Athleta’s plan)
- Dig out my Tri Kit (make sure it fits) and my cycling jersey
- See my Chiropractor for my tight left leg
I’m hoping that with this week coming up I can at last cross off the first 2 items from my list.
This concludes the second edition of Road to Iron Girl. Here’s to a new adventure and a 15-week countdown to the big event. I hope you follow along as I chronicle my Road to Iron Girl, if so, see you next week!
If any women out there is doing Iron Girl Grimsby, I’ve created a Facebook group. It’s a place were we can connect and discuss all aspects of training and competing in this event. Here’s the link to the group Iron Girl Grimsby 2018 Unite! Just ask to join!
