Now that summer seems to be in full swing, the countdown to Iron Girl Grimsby seems to be going down fast. And speaking of fast, FAST was the theme of this week’s workouts.
I’ve been talking about my struggle with getting back to running and an active lifestyle since having a baby. My little guy is now 3.5 months, and I’m still carrying an extra 10 lbs. That extra 10 pounds has been weighing me down in my workouts until recently.
I’ve changed a few things around and now that I’m seeing progress, my workouts seem to be easier. The easier they seem, the more I’m motivated to train harder. The harder I train, the better the results I’m seeing. It’s a big positive snowball effect!
So exactly what did I change?
Well, for starters, I’ve been taking a harder look at my diet. I’m trying to sneak in more protein and vegetables in my diet. I’m also making sure I take a daily multi-vitamins. I also tend to be low in iron, so I make sure to take some iron supplements as well. I know they can be hard on a body, so I’ve found a liquid form called Floradix that is gentle on my digestive system. I also changed when I take my supplements since I learned that my morning cup of coffee can affect the absorption of my vitamins. Instead, I take my vitamins and iron supplement later in the day.
I also mentioned before that fast was the theme of this week. I took to sprinting in my swimming and my running this week. Speed workouts will help you lose weight, as will running hills, and tempo runs. I’m also adding some strength training to my weekly workout schedule in order to build muscle mass. This will also rev up the metabolism.
The outcome has been positive on many levels. First of all, there is a slow and real downward trend to my weight loss on my Aria digital scale. I’m not fitting in many more of my summer clothes. And, I’m also seeing some real definitions in my legs, abs, and arms. I’m having more positive thoughts towards my body image. But that’s just the physical.
I’m also seeing positive outcomes elsewhere. My runs are becoming easier and I’m able to move faster. Overall, I’m feeling stronger and happier. This goes a long way to fuel my motivation. Seeing these kinds of results makes me want to train harder and want to set a higher goal for myself for Iron Girl Grimsby in August.
Here is my plan for this week, I hope that the positivity keeps snowballing.
Ok, that concludes Road to Iron Girl Chronicle Week 5. Come back next week as I countdown to 10 weeks to Iron Girl Grimsby 2018.
