I’m now half way through my training for my first triathlon in two years. Here’s an update on Raod to Iron Girl Chronicle Week 7.
This will be my second time doing a triathlon sprint. I did Iron Girl Canada back in 2016. I had many challenges to overcome before I could compete the first time; the biggest ones include learning to swim, buying a bike and getting outfitted for a triathlon.
This time around, my challenge is different since I just had a baby back in February. I’m fighting extra weight, time constraints that come with being a mom to an infant as well as lack of sleep. However, I feel that at week 7, I’m feeling strong and doing well.
Sweat is fat crying
First off, the extra pounds seem to be melting off lately. I’m mostly running for weight loss and I’ve found a strategy that is working really well for me, but that’s for another post. I’m also finding some creative ways to get my workouts in (again, more about that in another post) and my baby is now waking up once a night for a feeding or even surprising me with a full nights sleep. Sounds like the stars are aligning for me.
The local municipal pool I usually swim at is closed for the entire month of June. I’ve been looking for alternative places but the schedules don’t work for me and the local YMCA is expensive if I don’t want to commit to a monthly membership. As an alternative, I’m going to be doing strength training for swimmers workout until Lake Ontario is warm enough to swim in or the pool re-opens.
Nike Run Club
And for a fun twist to my speed workout this morning, I’ve used the Nike Run Club app for my phone. The app offers guided runs of all kinds, from First Long Run to Mindful Miles. This was my first time doing a guided run. I did “Speed Run with Sanya”. I really enjoyed it, so I’m going to looking at doing many others. It kept me focused and motivated. Any one else use Nike Run Club?
Here’s what’s on the training agenda this week:
Monday – Strength Training for Swimmers Workout
Tuesday – Rest
Wednesday – Rest
Thursday – Speed Workout
Friday – Swim?? or 7 km run
Saturday – 15 km bike/3 km run
Sunday – swim???
That concludes Road to Iron Girl Chronicle Week 7. Come back next week as I countdown the weeks to Iron Girl Grimsby 2018.
