Iron Girl Canada is 6 or 7 weeks away and I feel nowhere ready for this goal race. Here is Road to Iron Girl Chronicle Week 9.
Injury & Setback update
Just to quickly recap last week’s post I hit a setback in my training when I pulled a muscle on my lower back while vacuuming. Needless to say that I did nothing as far as training all week. In fact I didn’t do much at all the beginning of the week. Having more time on my hands, I wrote a whole post about what to do when an injury sets you back,
On Monday, I could barely walk my son to school. I went, but very slowly. I came home and did some stretching, foam rolling, icing and a warm bath. That seemed to help. By Tuesday and Wednesday, I started to get my mobility back. By Friday, I was stiff but the pain was gone.
Fast forward to Sunday, I felt normal again. To test out my body, I ran a very slow 5 km run (40 min slow) and I felt great.
Plans for this week
I had set my sights on my first 5 km race of the year, The Peachbud, this Tuesday evening. I’ve done it before, and it’s a really fun race. My 5-year-old son will be doing the 1 km race and I’m feeling Ok to do the 5 km. I might have to lower my expectations for this race, but I still want to see what I can do.
So as far as training, this week, my plan is thin. The local indoor pool is still closed till the end of June, and the outdoor pools don’t open till July 1 so that rules out swimming. I’m going to take a break from cycling for another week since I believe that my muscle strain could have been triggered by cycling. So that leaves running, stretching, and yoga for this week. Come July, I’ll be back to training.
That’s it for this week’s Iron Girl Chronicle Week 9. Hopefully the next few weeks I will be back to my regular training schedule.
