There is something very anti-climatic about finishing a big goal like a Half Marathon or an Iron Girl. With all the preparation and anticipation built-up around such a goal that when I’m finally finished it leaves me feeling a little empty and low.
I know this feeling is only temporary. I felt it after my half marathon, and I’m in the same funk again. I talked to my twin sister Julie and she’s kind of feeling the same way. The best way to get out of it is give yourself a week for your body and mind to readjust, then re-evaluate your goals.
Changing things up will help me get out of this funk. I’ve done so much cardio all year, the next few months I want to do more weight training and getting a good base for next year’s goals. I still have 2 races on my race calendar so I’m still going to do a bit of running, but will focus more on building muscles.
Faster 5 Km
My favorite race distance is still the 5 km. My first race after my 10 year hiatus was the Run For The Grapes 2 years ago. For the third year in a row, I’m going to run this fun race. This time, I’m going to try for my fastest 5 km yet. My 5 km record is 25:26. I’m hoping to break 25 minutes this time around. I’m soooo close.
Be More Creative
Since I’ve worked so hard on my 2 goals, I haven’t been doing much creatively. One of my favorite hobbies is painting and I haven’t lifted a brush all year. I’ll devote some of my time to that again. Best way to get started is to sign myself up for a painting class.
