I needed a little family fix. I headed up to Sudbury (my home town) this past weekend for several days to spend time with my mom and my sisters, along with my husband and son. It’s a long 6 hour drive but it’s well worth it.
On Sunday, I had the rare opportunity to run an 8 Km run with my twin sister Julie. That’s when I learned that my 8 year old nephew Felix (Julie’s son) has developed an interest in running himself. He is an avid hockey & lacrosse player but he has a goal of running a 5 km race with his mom. Julie’s influence is definitely running off.
To test him out, Julie took him to run 2.5 Km to start! When that seemed relatively easy for him, she took him out for a 4 km run a few days later. They raced to the finish, and Felix won. Julie was quite impressed with his stamina, speed and how much energy he still had at the end. Way to go Felix!
Julie is quite excited that one of her sons is sharing an interest with her and she wants to foster that interest. Julie and Felix will be running on May 9th Sudbury Rocks Race. Julie will be running a 10 Km race, while her son Felix will be running his very first 5 km race ever!

Julie was the first one between the two of us to get back into running. Inspired by her progress, I joined in the fun (and here I am blogging about my progress). Now it looks like the momentum is picking up. Not only is Felix joining in on the movement, my sister Mona is now running on her treadmill waiting to take her running outdoors (a race announcement might be in the future for Mona as well). Even my readers are leaving comments about how they are inspired to start running themselves!
Looks like running might be contagious! I’ll be excited to share how Julie and Felix’s run go. Tune in shortly after May 9th to see how this Mother/Son duo do on their races!
